1. A hike to the Poludnica peak, approx. 4 - 5 hours, elevation gain approx. 800 m
The Poludnica peak belongs to the most beautiful view peaks of Slovakia. It is located in the northern part of the Low Tatras. A marked green tourist trail from the close neighbourhood of the Bystrá centre takes you to the meadow saddle Rakytovica. From the saddle the yellow path ascends steeply through the spruce forest up to the upper part of the Poludnica massif consisting mostly of limestone. The massif has two peaks. The northern flat-topped grassy summit (1493 m) offers spectacular panoramic bird’s eye views of the whole Liptov area including the water reservoir Liptovská Mara and surrounding mountain ranges – the Western Tatras, the High Tatras and the Chočské vrchy. The southern forested summit (1549 m) offers the view of the central mountain ridge of the Low Tatras.
2. Open air museum of the Liptov village
The museum near the Pribylina village was opened to the public in 1991. The main aim was to protect and exhibit the most precious collections of national importance. Most of the exhibits were rescued from the area flooded during the construction of the Liptovská Mara water reservoir in the early 1970th. Besides wooden architecture (houses of farmers and craftsmen, a village school, a fire station, etc.), copies of two precious monuments from the flooded area are exhibited, namely the gothic church of Our Lady from Liptovská Mara and the gothic renaissance manor-house from Parížovce. Many of the interiors have been furnished, recreating the way the buildings were used by their owners in the past. The museum has its own domestic animals and poultry exposition.
